I certainly agree with Peter, that this is a little-known masterpiece.

I am an Australian, and now pretty sure now that Peter is an Australian of a similar vintage as myself. That's now two fringe Australian movies made in the first half of the 80's that we both know and enjoy - this and Quiet Earth.

I'm definitely going to pick this up the next time I go to the video store, I'm sure I saw it there on the bottom shelf.

And you clearly are Australian - there you go trying to claim that New Zealand movie 'Quiet Earth' for Australia. You'll be wanting Phar Lap next. :-)

Boring!
But the story of [Horse] Breaker Morant does remind me of another Australian horse trainer caught up in a war and a Kangaroo Court. Morant/David Hicks. It's all the same, only the names have changed but somehow I doubt PC will see it that way.

There's going to be a modern remake of this movie sooner or latter.

George Bush Jr & John Howard, as Lord Kitchener

Australia, as Germany

David Hicks, as Morant

Guantanamo Bay, as South African veldt outpost

Someone should explore these parallels.

Well, anything with Woodward in it HAS to be good. He's right up there with Hopkins (who is the only reason I watched Hannibal). Unfortunately, this type of movie (The Execution of Private Slovik, Paths of Glory) usually leaves me with a bad taste in my mouth; people doing the right thing getting put down over it mainly because of a system's systemic dysfunctions.

But, it definitely is worth catching.

I couldn't have been more bored if you tied me to a post and forced me to watch a karkee cow try to chew tussock on a sand dune.

Health warning for Dawe and Dailey- Didn't find that boring? Well whatever you do, don't ever watch A Few Good Men. That's what real men call courtroom drama. You'll stew in your own dopamine lads! Stick to rotting mallets, grass growing, paint drying, and Breaker Morant.

      If it's mere 'courtroom drama' I'm interested in, I just tune to Law And Order or the CourtTV channel; and they're 'free.'
      But, the truth about what you're obviously missing in Break...aww...you can't handle the truth!
