This movie is another favorite of mine, and I have seen it so many times I can now quote the dialogue verbatim.  Mandy Patinkin's performance as Inigo Montoya is utterly brilliant.

The scene that never fails to give me a chuckle, however, is the wedding scene.  "Mawwage..."   :D

Jennifer, "Bride" is one of my faves, too.  But I do have 3 confessions:
-I am not the Dred Pirate "Roberts"
-I have not seen the 6-fingered man
-I am not left-handed

The question is...have you ever beaten a master in a swordfight, wrestled a giant, matched wits with a Sicilian and survived a fire swamp full of R.O.U.S.'s?  Now that's a hero.  ;)

I think this is a truly outstanding movie. But I'm a little jealous of Jennifer's comment about Mandy Patinkin -- I thought only I had a high and fine enough soul to appreciate his performance. ;-)

This film is a bit like 'Groundhog Day' and 'That Thing You Do' (two more favorites) -- a kind of deceptively simple, low-key wonderful. The story is told in a conventional way with a conventional sit-com-like atmosphere -- but it isn't a conventional movie at all.

It's also interesting in that this finally seems to be a "magic realism" movie that works and that's inspiring, not malevolent. The film makers exploit the possibilities that movies offer in a way that usually only clever cartoons do.

Ultimately, I think this movie is so good because it's told in the guise -- and under the cover of -- a child's fairy tale. This allows it to be highly romantic, heroic, and epic all at once.

Nothing is sweeter than, at the end, Inigo finally getting his revenge and Wesley finally getting his girl!

To Fraser:
Not if you're merely the Admiral and I'm the Commander in Cheese (and of course Sam Pierson's still the War Room General). Now report back to headquarters! :)

This movie is a personal favorite. I particularly appreciate the screenplay, which I read before seeing the movie. William Goldman rarely disappoints!
