It just goes to show how much infra-structure is still open to terrorism, even if it was unintentional.

Is the company owned by the local Government? It sounds like they have nothing to lose and are therefore not too worried about the delay.

Now. If there was a free market... :-)

Yes, the NYC subway is today owned by the government of NY, but was originally built by private investors.

As we can see, there is a gradual decay in the subway system operated by the government. However, this is not necessary due to the government, because in Germany we also have subwaytains and they run without such failures, but are also a lot more expensive (they can only operate, because the state is paying the losses at which they run).

I don't know whether an inner-city public transportation system could operate privately on the long run, because there is not much profit in it.

It ran much, much better in private hands, and was set to continue doing so. Here are some articles from the Ludwig von Mises Institute which relate to the success of the NY subway system in private hands, and its subsequent post-nationalisation failure:

- Subway Tax in the Rancid Apple

- What New York Didn't Need

- Sell The Subways

There is no way it would take any private company "years" to repair this damage. Typical government B.S.
