| | there are supposedly 8 million plus illegal immigrants in the US. many (most of ones i know) of them pay taxes, admitting that they work here to the government which forbids them to work here. and this government takes their money, admitting that they know about and are fine with this cheap-labor-with-no-benefits/mild-slavery-like-system. now as to the right of an individual to pursue liberty and happiness. seems like immigration laws limit this right. if you define a criminal as a person who coerts, illegal immigrants are as much criminals as runaway slaves of 19th century. obviously, just opening the borders 100% right away would be insane, as it would destoy the sensitive economic and social balance, but it defintely it's the goal, i think. Europe's unionizing serves as an excellent example. Eastern european countries were allowed to join if they were up to par. Europe's west in now totally open to pursuit of better life for any easterer willing to achieve. and nobody seems to be complaining...
