This is the amazing thing for people from Europe (like me). Usually, we only get the documentations about Texas that show Western style little towns full of weirdos and religious people or we see Dallas with its rich oil fellas. However, what is not emphasized in Europe and generally in France and Germany, is the fact, that Texas is the best example for rights to protect the individuum. Again, a brave move in the face of the federal government. Usually, the only news from Texas is, when they executed the next prisoner and nothing more. What a shame we have such biased reports... what a luck that there is the Internet now :)

Good news, but notice the story's emphasis on the "cultural commitment" to private property, as if private property were just some sort of local, hayseed tradition passed down through generations. I live in the West, and I can tell you that the "cultural commitment" to private property is strong, but it is a principled and federalist commitment to ensuring the right to one's property.

I think this news conveyed some of the spirit of Texas and Texans that I've learnt to love very much.

Yee haw!

I sure hope the proposed amendment goes through.

Now if we can just pass a Texas Castle law analogous to Florida's recent success for self-defense.

Well, I live like 25 mins from Texas in Louisiana but it didn't need to rub off, we respect property rights as well. (except for when they want to expand a damn road and take a few feet from everyone)

Whats good also is that Democrats also support this. As far as the South and the West (except California) are concerned, property rights is a non-partison issue.
