Any idea which are the names of the 3 episodes?

Max,

The episodes that were never aired were:
Trash (episode 11)
The Message (episode 12)
Heart of Gold (episode 13)

And I'd just like to say, YES! Finally Firefly will get the attention it deserves. Now we just have to wait until Whedon gets to make new episodes.

Whedon will just release Serenity, which sadly was not named Firefly (thus it is disconnected in PR a bit). All the previews were good, even some reminder on Mr. Sciabarra's Dialectical approach in some of the Reviews :)

Hmm, I have seen those episodes via a friend of mine. They are funky, especially the Message episode.

Hopefully, if the movie and the re-run succeeds, Fox will try another attempt on a second season :)

Max,

The differing titles don't seem to matter much. Firefly spread through word-of-mouth and is huge. The DVD set is a consistent top seller on Amazon. In May (I think) there was a preview of Serenity in 10 US cities, all sold out within a few hours. In June they had another preview, 35 cities, all sold out fast. Think about it, how many movies can you think of that had the demand for 45 showings before the release date! Firefly has a ginormous cult following and I doubt that the title will keep fans from spreading the word about it even more.

Edit: Fox had their chance. They don't deserve Firefly after the abuse they put it through.

Sarah

P.S. Yay Firefly! Yay Joss Whedon! Yay Scott Cram!

Although I didn't especially like Joss's other work (Buffy and Angel), because they were mostly clichéque teenage movies, I was rather shocked during the first episode of Firefly. I have always wondered when we will see Cowboys and individualists back on the screen and here they come in new fancy and funny clothes. Especially the Chinese lower-caste idea was a very original attempt that hasn't been done often before. I think I have learned a word or two chinese from this :) (Although my Martial Arts teacher said that the pronounciation is bad, albeit very funny)

Yeah, Fox has made capital mistakes in marketing and placing the product, but still FOX is one of the most resourceful production companies.

On the economic side, I think Firefly is as much a phenomenon as Harry Potter. Both succeeded despite the lack of prominent propagande (while Harry was initially successfull, Firefly needed DVD to go skyrocketing) and both mostly made it through mouth-to-mouth propaganda.

Max,

Yeah, Firefly needed the DVD before it became popular, but that's like saying the Harry Potter books needed paper before they became popular. Fox did the equivalent of selling Harry Potter books without the pages in them. No wonder it didn't do well.

Yes, there is a difference, of course. On the other side, when they tried to sell the merchandise, it didn't work, because only the books were of the original quality.
Harry Potter was a very original and unique product that didn't obey the usual marketing rules :)

Firefly also was not part of the usual marketing-chain, but still sold very good on amazon.com :)

This is the point I wanted to score home ;)

I have the DVD's so I'm just waiting for the movie. This was def one of the best sci-fi shows on television and I'm glad its coming back. Personallyk, its 3rd on my list behind the trek series and babylon 5. It would probably be #2 if it wern't canceled. Funny though one of the high points of the show was the music, they had a good composer and of course Joss Whedon wrote an awsome theme song.

Take my love. Take my land.
Take me where I cannot stand.
I don't care, I'm still free.
You can't take the sky from me.

Take me out to the black.
Tell 'em I ain't comin' back.
Burn the land And boil the sea.
You can't take the sky from me.

Have no place I can be since I found Serenity.
But you can't take the sky from me.

Well, it beat Trek and Wars hands down (even though it was cancelled). I don't know about Babylon 5, because they are too different and Firefly was too short to explain much of its world and setting.
I think there is only one series better than firefly and that is due to its success: Battlestar Galactica. The season opener on Friday has again beaten my expectations.

While the last several Trek attempts at relevancy have been relatively weak, I agree that Firefly is PHENOMENAL, and Battlestar Galactica is AWESOME.

But, they are very different shows. BSG is more military themed, and the stakes are the entire human race. It is almost never humorous, but instead, a very serious, life and death struggle in almost every episode. How can you beat cliffhangers like you get from episode to episode?

Firefly is damatic, funny, and very, very pro-individualist. The characters are real and dynamic in a way that BSG doesnt quite match. Every episode of Firefly makes you laugh, gives you action, drama, adventures, and all the intertwined plots, excellent.

I wouldnt want to have to choose between them, because they are both master works in my opinion. If I had to, I'd choose firefly. It is THAT good.

I really like Galactica despite the mysticism they keep tossing in. Mysticism is ok in fiction..

Yes, indeed. Somehow I can understand, trust and respect Adama as a military commander, but the President is just the kind of wacko I wouldn't vote for (same with this other terrorist guy).
She is an absolute wacked president, who I don't like a minute, because she is so deeply religious (reference to George Bush) and believes herself to be a saviour of some kind (delusive). While Balthar's delusion is somehow cool and exotic, the mysticism of President (Laura?!) is just getting on my nervs..
