Thank you for this article Marty.  I was incredulous the first time I saw someone wearing one of those shirts.

Very informative. It's good to finally put some facts to the face.  To be honest I didn't know who Che was until a year or so ago (I saw the face on "rage against the machine" shirts but that was it).

I sincerely second your hope that this article circulates widely.

"It is customary for followers of a cult not to know the real life story of their hero, the historical truth."

And yet, I bet if you ask those kids wearing the Che T shirts about Ayn Rand, they'd all claim that, like, she was a tyrannical bitch, you know? And she had a crazy affair and, like, drove her husband to drink, oh, and she thought homosexuals were disgusting, and, like, didn't she kick puppies or something?
But Che's alright. He's a freedom fighter, you know?

Re: Che the Freedom fighter.

I think a great assessment on him comes from an unlikely source.

I wonder what would happen to a student who wore a Hitler t-shirt?
The college would probably prosecute him using every tool of censorship of their wretched PC code. The shirt would be deemed 'offensive,' and would be banned. But Che is a hero of the left -- a 'freedom' fighter for the glorious communist revolution against the fascists.

So how about a Che shirt with the Che crossed out with one of those red circle slash thingees ( what are those called, anyway)? And why is it silly to wear a Rand shirt, but not a Che shirt?

I wear a Rand shirt.  Used to wear it to work even. It would be ackward if I was still able to, (they enacted a uniform policy in my staffing agency) one of the supervisors on manufacturing side wears one pretty often (I work warehouse side).

there is already one available at www.protestwarriors.com, which is ok (at least imo).

Of course, the outrage at Hitler would be bigger, but in the end, hitler was more efficient in the evil he was doing, while Che was rather stupid, while being still a blood-thirsty murderer.

I think this difference is one explanation, why Che never got the fame of an evil man like Stalin or Hitler or Mao.
Nowadays, kids only know the Che was fighting against an oppressive state and they know the movie "Motorcycle Diaries" adn that's it. One would be inclined to agree that ignorance is ok and serves well. At least, they are not worshipping him in full knowledge of his deeds, but because they think he fought for liberty.

It is disgusting and stupid, but what do you want to change? You want to surpress the freedom of clothing as you like? You want to ban an idea because you think it is an evil idea (even if you have facts for it that would negate the freedom of expression and freedom of thought right). It is disgusting, but let them around with this "chic"-shirt, because in a few years they will grow out of it.

"At least, they are not worshipping him in full knowledge of his deeds, but because they think he fought for liberty."

So, at best, they are like Cheryl Taggarts, who spit at Dagny and worship Jim Taggart because they think he's the hero. Dagny only showed her consideration after Cheryl realized the truth. In the meantime, Dagny was the real hero, fighting the looters and statist destroyers.

"I say defend any persons right to display anybody on his or her teeshirt, even if it makes you puke!"

They can wear any old rag or Cardigan they like. No one cares about the shirt. It's the IDEAS on the shirt. I don't have to defend a person's ideas, even if I can't smack the print off the shirt. But I can sure as hell speak up about it. C'mon, people, this is a war of ideas!

The people who promote the true idea behind the Che shirts cannot speak out openly, they would be lynched. So they manipulate the conformist radical rebel pseudo-individual of the Toohey variety to spread the disease like zombies. It is PRECISELY the type of thing we should be fighting, not by fists, but by calling them on it. Tell the world that the Emperor has no clothes save a Che T shirt. It is the use of passive advertising, and the mindset that promotes the blind acceptance of a murderer, that will destroy this country.

People, this is important. Without new lands to discover, no "Free States" in our immediate future, no Mars colonization for some time, America is our last refuge. Don't let it go!
