| | I’ve made this point a million times in the past but it look like I have to again…
When he talks about the “Darwinians” notice who they mention; Richard Dawkins, Madonna, and the like. A large part of his argument is the moral subjectivism those people represent. Hell, when people of any faith look at secularists its not only evolution and atheism that comes to their mind, as the author point out, its their moral subjectivism and that is what draws the line in the sand for people like him.
Naturally we reject that crap, so either he ain’t talking about me or he doesn’t know any better (being that objectivism isn’t that large of a movement, its probably the later). The fact of the matter is that Dawkins and I are on the same page when it comes to evolution, actually after reading “The Selfish Gene” he can almost say whatever he wants on the matter and I’d agree. But that’s about it, I can think of about a dozen beliefs say, Rush Limbaugh and I have in common, ID ain’t one of them but my point is there major fundamentalists out there that we have a lot more in common with then “mainstream” secularism.
As for the Muslims, the author is right there. If France was my introduction to the West I’d run away screaming too. Europe is the center of moral subjectivism and any rational person should be turned away from that. Without the intellectual tools to do better though, all they had to turn to was back where they started. And if all they’re getting from America is Hollywood and MTV then they’re not getting what they need from us either.
Those people need exposure to the right ideas, pure and simple. And they’re definitely getting a good lesson in Iraq and Afghanistan. Whether they embrace reason or not is of course up to them but this Akyol fool is irrelevant to that.
