Good one, Ethan!

===========
Bill:
Ethan, would you please pass the bread? [Ed mumbling something to himself]

Ed:
Would somebody please pass the meat? [Bill mumbling something to himself]

Ethan:
Say Bill, wouldn't you like some butter for that bread? [Ed fidgeting]

Bill:
Heaven's no!

Ed (standing up quickly):
I CAN'T TAKE IT ANYMORE!

Bill (to Ethan):
See! I told you he was a madman!

Ethan (to Ed):
Ahh. C'mon Ed. Aren't you going to stay for dessert??

Ed (cautiously optimistic):
Well, what's for dessert?

Ethan:
Low-fat Angel food cake with strawberry syrup!

[Ed is standing there, but doesn't respond; something strange is happening to him; at first, his eyes twitch back and forth rapidly, then, they roll back into his head; he appears to tense up and ... his head explodes]

Bill:
You see, Ethan. Too many omega-3 fats. Would you please pass the whole wheat rolls?

[Ethan passes the rolls, looks at what's left of Ed -- and removes half of his steak and puts it on a spare plate]

Note to self:

Do not invite Ed or Bill to dinner :-)
Ha! Good one, Ethan. I bonked you for that! Btw, this reminds of Chris Wolf's infamous "My Dinner with Andy," in which he criticized Objectivist dignitary Andrew Bernstein for refusing to eat at the restaurant Wolf had reserved for him at which Bernstein was the guest of honor. After arriving at the dinner party, Bernstein allegedly claimed that nothing on the restaurant's menu was acceptable. I'm serious. I got kicked off Diana Hsieh's list over this, because I said that I didn't see how Chris would simply have made up something that outrageous - especially since none of the other guests disputed his story.

Yeah, I can just see your writing a post entitled, "My Dinner with Bill and Ed," in which Bill and Ed refused to eat at the restaurant you had reserved for them, since the menu was neither Atkins nor Pritikin. Someone told me that Bernstein was on something like the Pritikin diet, but don't quote me on that! I'm in enough trouble already! ARI probably has a bounty on my head for believing that any of their lecturers has ever done anything boorish or impertinent. [g]

Kudos to Bill for telling me about controlling postprandial (after meals) glucose levels.

I just got some Life Extension magazines from my relatives (they save them and pass them on to me, occasionally). There's a good section (p. 69-77) in the October 2010 issue regarding the link between controlled blood glucose and obtaining the benefits of caloric restriction (CR).

If you have a glucometer, you can check your glucose before and 1- and 2-hours after meals. Good fat loss results should come from meals that only increase your blood sugar by 40-mg/dL or less. However, protein is also oxidized and eating more protein should help prevent the loss of lean tissue while you are eating to minimize the glucose responses to your meals.

Ed,

Yeah, I subscribe to LE Mag. LEF is sort of cutting edge, but a good source of information too.
