| | I was sickened when the male socialist criticized the capitalists for things that were unrelated to capitalism. For example, a person asked "[Isn't it bad if we let people do whatever they want for selfish reasons, like selling their daughters to the pornographic industry?]" Peikoff replied "[That kind of behavior isn't in ones self interest.]" Then the male socialist said "[Its terrible that in capitalism people can do whatever they think is in their self interest.]" The male socialist ignored that doing something like forcing a child to perform sexual acts is an initiation of force. He ignored that it would be punished in capitalism. It should have been clear to the male socialist that this sort of behavior is illegal in capitalism. He said it as a cheep shot since Peikoff had no time left to comment on the question, and Peikoff hadn't said anything about the legality.
I laughed pretty hard when the socialist claimed that the 3rd world countries are poor because the US made them so. I think third world countries are poor because the vast majority of people there like to steal from each other and are not smart enough to either produce values nor defend them from looters. Surely they would become less poor if we opened factories there, but I think we don't do that because its simply to risky and dangerous. We'd have to pretty much enforce the protection of our own property there, since the local government is incapable, which may be a very expensive thing to do.
We are smart enough to produce values, but we are fools in that we allow the wealth redistributionists to profit from taking from us by force. In the coming years, are we going to move back towards capitalism, or move towards higher redistribution of wealth such as was done by the Nazis?
