| | We all knew how absurdly stupid it was to subject pilots to these security measures, but we also knew subjecting three-year olds to pat downs and taking naked pictures of passengers were absurdly stupid as well. If the TSA is now willing to discuss measures to 'profile' on the basis of occupation there's no credible reason now for not applying this rational principle on the basis of any other statistical threat.
TSA, pilots may be near deal on full-body scans

CAPTION By Brendan Smialowski, Getty Images The Transportation Security Administration may soon adopt new screening procedures for pilots, ABC's Good Morning America reports this morning.
Pilots have been among the many groups criticizing the TSA's new protocol on full-body scans and more vigorous pat-downs for those who refuse the scans.
Some pilot groups have even urged their members to boycott the scans, saying that the scans would do little to thwart a pilot determined to down a plane.
"We've had a number of very good discussions with pilots and hope to be announcing something very soon in terms of a good way forward for the pilots for that very reason, using a risk-based intelligence driven process," TSA chief John Pistole tells Good Morning America.
Reuters notes "pilots' unions, which have raised health concerns about scans and objected to rigorous pat downs, say their members already have gone through security background checks, making further screening duplicative. U.S. officials contend that radiation from the scans pose no health risk."
Elsewhere, Pistole gave no indication that the TSA will back off its new security procedures that have prompted a backlash from many fliers.
