Bill, there is no way to ever shift or convert those who are using the Republican primary races and the GOP to try to force their Christian views on the world.

There will only be one winner in the contest between the religious right and those who want a small, constitutional government. The winner of this battle will eventually become the new GOP. Another contender is the Neo-con, the militaristic conservatives, but they will lose because people are tired of war and we will either bring the troops home or declare bankruptcy as a nation. And, the RINOs and the establishment GOP don't really have any principles... certainly not any that adequately address the problems we face. So if that faction wins, then it is the end of the Republican party and the Tea Party people and Libertarians will be starting over in fighting for an electoral home.

Anyway, it is from that viewpoint, that I keep trying to point out the small, but rapidly growing segment of the conservative movement that are very close to libertarian.

Think about someone like Rand Paul running for President in 2016.

Steve:

Whoever runs in 2016 will likely be facing at least a 22 trillion dollar debt--assuming the US can replace the SS Trust Fund as the number one willing holder of US Debt, and find some brand new willing lenders able to fill those shoes...

Do you really dislike Rand Paul enough to heap that punishment on him?

regards,
Fred

($22T = $16T + 4 x 1.5T, as a minimum.)

Not just treasury debt, but treasury debt plus agency debt.

Real, US government debt.

Not to be confused with unfunded government liabilities, future political promises that are not close to being meetable.
