Justin Amash should be a star. Integrity and honesty are far too rare in Washington and he shows a great deal of both. And I too like the way he refused to play that game of pretending that his opponent wasn't a liar and smear artist. Being a good sport is one thing, but sanctioning dirty politics is something altogether different. I love that he posts an entry on his FaceBook page explaining every single vote he makes (and I hear he doesn't miss any votes). I also like that he posted "Happy Birthday" to Bastiat and quoted him, "The existence of persons and property preceded the existence of the legislator and his function is only to guarantee their safety." And, "By virtue of exchange, one man's prosperity is beneficial to all others." The GOP should not involve itself in any primary election on the side of one candidate or another (same for the Democratic Party). Not with financial support or endorsements. It is up to the people of a district, those who belong to the party in question, to choose who will be their candidate in the General Election. Parties that leverage their own candidates into office are acting to deprive their members of representaion, and are just one step away from government itself deciding who will be the legislators, and then doing away with the very idea of a representation.
