Orion, you wrote:

"The wrestler known as "The Ultimate Warrior" gave a thoroughly brilliant political and philosophical speech on CSPAN a year ago, and actually discussed Ayn Rand at length!"

Can you tell us what he said?

Ms. Branden,

It's been awhile since it was on -- he gave a press conference on the philosophy of America, to reacquaint his audience with the core of what we're supposed to stand for, and refocus on minds on the war on terror -- but maybe I could find a transcript somewhere on the net or from CSPAN.

What I can do now, is give you a summary...  From memory, he said something like "the great American writer Ayn Rand understood perhaps more than anybody the American philosophy and the importance of philosophy in our everyday lives... and although I believe she was incorrect with respect to her anti-religion stance, her ideals were of enormous importance and..." so on and so on.

It was a very good speech; to help you understand just how amazingly good it was, I would say it's better than anything I've heard in recent years... better than most presidential speeches, better than Ross Perot's famous nationwide informational presentations on the American economy that he ran when he was running for president.

The Ultimate Warrior was an amazingly intelligent communicator and speaker.  I was like, "Why isn't he on television more, or running for something?"

I remember now that I even emailed him from his website, and he replied back very graciously.  I don't know what sort of media pull that The Objectivists have today, but if you could get Warrior on television, people would really listen to him... He has a second career -- I would definitely say bigger even than his first -- as a public speaker and motivator.

I though someone here might appreciate this.

The above is a recent lecture given by Warrior at UConn on April 5th 2005. For the most part, it is a good program. This is true up until the half-way mark, because some college liberals insisted on debating with him during the lecture after he dismissed the validity of homosexuality.

The video is concluded by a statement from the cameraman. "The filmmaker in no way endorses the ideas expressed by this bigot. I just simply wish to show what a digusting and hateful man the Ultimate Warrior is." The Q&A is left off entirely, giving UW no opportunity to thoroughly explain himself or his ideas that are so "bigoted."

If nothing else, it will demonstrate what folks whose opinions stand in contrast to the accepted truths at universities face when they attempt to express themselves.
