I was listening to a Peikoff Q & A the other day, which was pretty good. I was a little stunned to hear one of the speakers blurt out, in the middle of an explanation, "Of course, only Ayn Rand speaks for Objectivism". The tone was familiar, having been raised around southern baptists. Does that strike anyone else as totally F'ing insane? Ayn Rand won't be speaking for much of anything. I was curious so I even looked up patent law, just in case the concepts involved or terms were or could be patented. We're way past the patent durations, even if we were adhering to them. That attitude (which I'm told is quite common with the closed system crowd" strikes me as so crazy and irrational that I can barely raise an argument, my brain won't accept that I would have to.

Ryan,

Are you familiar with the schism between David Kelley and Leonard Peikoff? Peikoff views Objectivism as a closed system; Kelley, an open one.

Well objectivity is a method of critical thinking that is supposed to be applied to nonbiased reporting
A person that would volunteer to enlist in our sevices does display a certain altruism. Apparently the risk to ones self is worth the reward for that individual. Many veterans of the armed services have display a keen sense of objectivity.
Objectivism may be a balance of the awareness of once sense of judgement and the emotions that result from the actions of said judgement.
If only Ayn Rand speaks for Objective ism . Then that leaves Subjective ism for the rest.
Perhaps objectivism is the opposite of alcoholism. perhaps the similarities are to subtle to be discerned.
