I tend to think the strong(!) emphasis Rand put on shared values was because she was a philosopher and ideas in the humanities occupied the most important place in her hierarchy of values. Some years back, I went to a traditional Catholic wedding for my best friend in grade school. The funniest part was watching a Catholic priest give a lecture to a doctor and microbiologist about sex! And through it all I can remember thinking I wouldn't have minded meeting the bride first.
