Just in case anyone's confused, this poll relates to the New Zealand political situation.  There is a sub-heading 'Special poll for NZ Soloists', but it doesn't seem to show up on the front page.

I will be voting 'National' in the poll.  This is because I believe that such a vote (ie at an election) would be the one most in my rational self-interest.  A vote for Libertarianz would seem to me to be a wasted one, much as I agree with their policies.  In reality, such a vote will have no effect.  Similarly for ACT; at least there is a chance of some small change towards an ever-so-slightly freer society under National.

And yes, I fully expect to be denounced for such views...

Yeah so did I,

On regards to voting, as an individual your vote is worthless anyway the outcome will be the same whether you vote or not so you should stop thinking that your vote will decide who gets in and who doesn't.

If someone is going to vote they should vote for an explicitly Libertarian Party or not vote at all, Despite the fact that you may only agree with say 10% of what the given party they will take it as a 100% endorsement of their beleifs and policies.

In the UK although I may sympathise with some of the policies of the Conservative Party and UK Independence Party (and I was a member of the later before I came across Ayn Rand) there is no Libertarian Party running so I will stay at home on election day. I will not engage in horsetrading sacrificing one liberty to gain another, nor will I legitimise the process in which politicians seize power.

I think the democratic institutions are rigged against any party which promotes limited goverment. From what I have observed whatever the rhetoric of either parties, government follows a boom and bust cycle where government keeps growing untill the economy collapses, then after some thatcherite leader makes the economy slightly more government booms again untill its next bust.

I will vote for Winston because of his stance on Immigration, and because hes got a great smile. I think a small population is what makes New Zealand a great place. And while it my stimulate the economy short term, in the long run it will make life cheap. I understand the idea of free movement, but think it only works one way, when you leave. There can't be a principle that says we will let only those that assimilate in, but maybe something a long the lines of an exchange, so if 10 people were aloud into America we would allow 10 Americans to come here, and if 30,000 kiwis want to go to China, then we would let 30,000 come here. Otherwise we could just have boat loads just because anything is better than the hell holes they come from, but it is up to them in their own countries to sort the problem out. I think a vote for National is wrong, even though one day New Aealand should become a republic and then no token seats, but now the fact is that Maori signed a treaty guaranteeing some representaion and the seats don't make a difference anyway, essentially he is just blaming maori for all the problems actually caused by statism. But in actual fact I will probably vote for Libz because Winston is actually not as tough as I first thought and to nice to old people responsible for statism, they went off to the war to fight it and came back home to vote for it.

My ideas against immigration have nothing to with racism, there will always be asian people in New Zealand, they were here before I was born, and the women are so beautiful it hurts.

the inscription on the Statue of Liberty reads..."Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me.
I lift my lamp beside the golden door."

Let them come.

I'd vote libertarianz hands down.

In case you missed it, laws restricting immigration are completely at odds with objectivist libertarianism. If you don't get that, then you don't get what it's all about. This isn't a complicated connection.

If you are against free immigartion, then you are a frightened, small minded, boring coward.

One of the only reasons I ever think of returning to NZ is because the increased immigration might have brought some colour and vibrancy into an otherwise sheepish, monochrome cultural mix.

New Zealand is a country of tolerance? Bollocks, it's a country where every second sentence is a complaint about "asian drivers".

I agree. 100%.
