A similar observation from Ann Coulter [June 10]:
"-----------------------------------------------------------
In another sharks-to-kittens comparison, Obama said, "Now let me be clear, issues of women's equality are by no means simply an issue for Islam." No, he said, "the struggle for women's equality continues in many aspects of American life."

So on one hand, 12-year-old girls are stoned to death for the crime of being raped in Muslim countries. But on the other hand, we still don't have enough female firefighters here in America.
-----------------------------------------------------------"

No fair, Mike. I was going to post that exact quote, but was waiting 24 hours til after I posted the Krauthammer.

LOL! Your fault: you posted all of your recommended columns. I put all the links in one bookmark folder, every couple of days I do an 'open all in tabs'.

BTW: I'm about half way through "Footfall". Funny, I had it on my bookshelf but hadn't gotten around to reading it.

Thoroughly enjoyed "Footfall". Wish they'd make it into a movie, instead of all the poor sci-fi retreads they give us.

Yes, Footfall is excellent both as a novel about resistance and as a first contact story, very highly recommended. Niven was criticized at the time as a fascist, especially for his treatment of the down on his luck journalist and his sanctioning of the use of nukes, with its implied criticism of anti-proliferation treaties. There's no better publicity in my book.

If I recall, the journalist did prove to be of quite practical use in the end.

Wafa is wonderful, and probably the most outspoken critic of Islam in America today.  I was trying to see if she'd made any statements on the Iranian protests, but found this video instead.  I couldn't find anything more current than several months old.

Teresa,

A recent article by Wafa regarding Obama's speech in Cairo:

Who should we believe?

Edited to correct mispelling and to add link.

Thank you, Mike. Wafa makes absolutely no apologies for appeasement, and that's one of the things I love about her.

She reminds me of Ayn Rand in her level of passion - and that it is a passion based on reason. She is intellectually fierce and fearless.

There is a video of her speaking in Copenhagen praising the publication of those cartoons and telling her audience that it made a big change... that it opened the door of criticism in a way which had never been done before. (The audio is bad, so when you Google to find the video, look for the transcript someone made).
