| | When I first read Ayn Rand describing the leftist, materialist, determinists -- such as Marx and Stalin -- as "mystics of muscle" well, I didn't quite get it. Further reading and thinking helped me understand her intellectual exactitude on the matter.
This quote is also very good at improving one's understanding of those on the political left -- such as Pelosi, Reid, and Obama -- as full-on, anti-reason mystics chasing after Utopian ideals by "trading" our lives, freedom, and futures. As Rand quipped, they desires effects without causes. This is the immature, 'magical thinking' of a 3 year-old.

The consensus appears to be that creationism the belief in a managed process with an omniscient authority is the only way to achieve successful outcomes. There is general agreement that the natural operation of the market is inadequate, and that a better outcome can be achieved through the wisdom and activity of governments and regulators.
