Personally, I find it useful to listen to other sources - e.g., Alan Watts, Robert Pirsig - the various religious philosophers - Augustine, the Vedics, etc. The Hindu position that I alluded to has certainly been a subject of debate far outside of any Vedic school of thought. One can find the same thread in various extropian or futurist discussions. I.e., what is the ultimate end or limit of consciousness in the physical universe? What are the requirements for sustaining a consciousness, such as the need for perceptually grounded feedback, and what happens when one is so powerful that objective feedback is difficult to come by - the same problem faced by people today when they arrive at positions of such power that no one dares tell them the uncensored truth?
