The most uplifting adaptable phrase from above is:
... compared to 1976 ... , the desire for more freedom and less government in 2012 is much greater and growing, ...
If anyone has been taking the "pulse of the nation" with respect to freedom for the last 36 years, it is Ron Paul. This guy, this guy who has been watching it like a hawk for 36 years, says it's getting better. Contrast that against the superficial political trend, which has been getting worse. In economics, they talk about leading indicators and whatnot (maybe there is another, more official, term for it). Some indicators are seen long before trends change. The reason that this is possible is because things are tied together, they are integrated. A booming housing market, or whatever, will have downstream economic effects -- the latter effects being related to the former cause.

The same is true of culture and politics. Culture is a leading indicator of political change, involving some unknown lag time. Against the standard of freedom, the culture in America has been improving for 36 years. Soon, there may even be tipping point where only libertarian-sounding politicians will ever get elected/re-elected.

The time for the socialists is running out.
