Thanks, Teresa. Check this out.
I wasn't aware of the Ron Paul silver dollars that were selling at $25 and now at $220 on eBay.
This is a letter that I sent to the Ron Paul campaign:

A Method of Raising Millions of Dollars for Ron Paul’s Campaign
I am a strong supporter of Ron Paul’s economic platform, especially of his proposal to get rid of the Federal Reserve Board and to allow alternative currencies. The proposal below is directed toward raising campaign funds by exploiting the aspirations of other gold bugs like me.
You will find enclosed a prototype of a drivers-license-sized laminated card depicting Ron Paul and, in a real card, would have a thin ribbon of 24 carat gold, weighing exactly one gram, embedded in it. The unique property of this card is that the gold in it cannot be counterfeited. The strip runs from side to side and is exposed at the edges where the electrical conductivity can be measured. This is an invention of mine and solves the age- old problems of circulating gold as a currency — it is protected from wear, can be circulated in small denominations and cannot be counterfeited.
These features will be appreciated by all those who think that it is an infringement on our liberties not to be able to use gold as a currency. While the Fed could construe this kind of card to be currency it can be argued that this is only campaign advertising. If the Fed did try to challenge the legality of it I think that the controversy could be only to the advantage of the campaign.
At today’s price of gold at around $800 per ounce, the value of 1 gram is about $25, so, if these cards were to be produced in bulk for an additional cost of, say, $4 or $5 including handling, they could be sold for perhaps $50 to gold enthusiasts like me. The reverse side of the card could contain other information about Ron Paul’s platform. Needless to say, the card would look very much better when created by professionals with better technology than I used. (As an aside, when private currencies become possible, imagine the potential for advertising commercial products on currency that everyone looks at every day.)
I hope that you will consider this proposal seriously and I believe that Ron Paul, being a physicist and economist, will understand and appreciate its potential.
Sincerely,
Paul Hibbert

I also included the text from my article on the subject. Needless to say, I haven't heard anything back.
