An absolutely lovely main idea. It is very difficult to create and develop a credible melody to preexisting words; as a long passage continues, one must resort to through-composition, which leads to complexity that can be at odds with artistic integration. Mr. Gleaves, you have performed this assignment as well as anyone ever could, in my estimation. This work may become famous because of its virtues.
This is great to see. It is now getting more and more familiar and more beautiful with every listening. Congratulations--another cap on your many talents.
I am disappointed I wasn't at the debut! I will be at the next one you have!
I should say that this is musically a masterpiece, regardless of one’s opinion of the setting of Rand’s words or of the melodic result. It is an art song of the highest quality, with an exceptionally fine piano part. As for the performance, the singer performs it with great conviction. An Objectivist could ask for nothing better.
