Looks like a bear market in civility too.  Maybe we won't have to wait too long for a fistfight to break out on the House or Senate floor.  Pass the popcorn...

Civility?

Oh, please. Obama is actually lying, in case you haven't noticed. The result of his lies, if effective, will lead to how many deaths, how much economic destruction, how much human suffering? What do you think the purpose of a live speech is? Obama could have done this from the Oval office. He was counting on the Congress's sanction, and on the heavy weight of social convention to guarantee docility. I would call someone a liar if it would save one life. Of course if what matters is not lives but adherence to an arbitrary social code then . . . well, the only thing I can think of is that episode of MASH where the racist soldier refuses a blood transfusion from a negro. Or maybe the fact that even in the concentration camps the Jews stood in line politely. Good luck with that.

I just assume it's a lie when the lips are moving.  It's more noticeable when a truth slips out.  Wilson made for good theatre, that's about it.  He should have sat closer to the front where Obama would have been within range of his shoe.  Few of the clowns in that room deserve civil treatmen. I believe we'll see more of this sort of thing in the future.

Can you say bitchslap?

Okay, please make your approval more clear next time. If I want to hear whining about how we should submit politely to dictatorship I'll read the New York Times.

"Most of the Republicans listening to Barack Obama’s health care address sat in stony silence, but there were a few exceptions, and honestly, guys, I think you can do better."

Ted,
I'll go even firther by saying that any self-respecting human being would not even have been present in that chamber to subject himself to the torture of listening to such contemptible propaganda.  Unless the republicans were marched in at gunpoint, their mere presence in the room sanctioned the pathetic performance.  They are pigs for participating.  I'd be interested to know if a single legislator skippefd the event as a matter of principle.  Sorry for not making my disdain for the political class more obvious.
