What moral authority, code, tenet, dictum or doctrine allows me to compel someone to take care of me? I thoroughly agree that it is virtuous to be kind, generous and compassionate, but nowhere in my body of knowledge can a non-virtuous person be forced to be virtuous. Now that Obama Care is law, a young, healthy man starting a career, hoping to get married and raise a family is faced with the burden of supporting me, a 76-year-old, running up hundreds of thousands of dollars in medical expenses since retirement. He is subject to a hefty fine if he doesn't take out health insurance and, presumably, jail if he doesn't comply. Just because an explicit victim can't be identified in the amorphous cloud of "society" doesn't mean he doesn't exist. Any "Kill the Bill" initiative must have morality as its grounding.
