From the Executive Director:

Executive Update for February, 2005
Posted by Joseph Rowlands on 3/02, 1:56am
Sorry for the delay in the update.  Recently we were informed by our server host that our site traffic has increased so much, we're straining the processing power on the server.  For the last few days I've been enhancing the software to be more efficient.  You might see smaller delays on some pages, but most of the time the delays are small anyway.  The real issue is that we're getting an enormous amount of daily traffic.  And that's fine as far as I'm concerned.

Our growth rate is still very good.  We've got six new authors, 51 new articles, and 81 new members.  For those who haven't been paying attention, we've crossed the 1000 mark on membership.  Take that with a grain of salt, though.  There are a few repeat accounts, a few accounts that were never validated correctly, and lots and lots of trolls.  But it's still a great milestone.

The big news is that SOLOC4 is on its way.  We've rented a beach house in southern California for the end of April, and it looks like we've filled the place up.  The speakers list has grown.  Giving presentations we have: Lindsay Perigo, Barbara Branden and John Hospers, Tibor Machan, Philip Coates, Adam Reed, and Lorie Bugby (from Camp Indecon).  And I'm told I have to give one.  We'll see about that.

There are plenty of hotels in the area, and a couple of the rooms are not confirmed yet so you might still be able to get one.  It's going to be an exciting week, so if you can make it, I recommend you try.  Go here for more details.

For many of you, the lastest copy of the Free Radical showed up in the mail.  Look at that wonderful cover:
Free Radical 65
The Ayn Rand Centenary Edition has a number of tributes to Ayn Rand on what would be her 100th birthday.  If you have subscribed yet, this is a great opportunity.  Or if you have friends you'd like to introduce to the best Objectivist/Libertarian magazine on the planet, just click here.  And if you want to contribute the next issue of the Free Radical, you have a March 5th deadline.

New SOLOHQ Features:

I've done a number of software upgrades that should make the front page and forums run faster.

SOLO Feature review:

You may have noticed on the top of every page we have the name SOLO.  Turns out, these are links.

Sense
of
Life
Objectivists Headquarters

If you click on them, they'll take you to the front page.  That might be more convenient than the "Home" button at the bottom of each page.  I find that it's also better for reloading the front page if you feel inclined.  Actually hitting "reload" often takes longer because it has to load the graphics.

Activists Wanted:

1.) Public Relations Director – Someone to present SOLO to the outside world. Part advertising, part communication, total passion.
2.) SOLO NZ Coordinator – someone to decorate the portal page, possibly coordinate conferences/meetings
