Note to self: Peikoff's induction theory seems to have 2 central tenets: 1) the idea that some generalizations are self-evidently perceptual (e.g. walls resist hammering hands) 2) the idea that conceptual understanding must precede (or coexist alongside of) any correct generalization Concerning (1), it appears that Peikoff grounds induction in perception just like concept-formation is ultimately grounded in perception. Concerning (2), it appears that if you mistakenly make the correct generalization (without understanding what you are talking about), then you aren't "right" yet. Ed | ||||
