Ramblings on Romney, A123, and death tax (an off-the-cuff rant)

Ramblings on Romney, A123, and death tax (an off-the-cuff rant)
Romney
It's plausible that Romney in 2012 got more than a million more votes than McCain did in 2008, due to McCain being an obvious establishment GOP "joke" of a candidate (even compared to Romney), and to Obama instigating a "buyers remorse" among all of his swing voters. If that plausibility actually happened, then more than 4 million votes were "transferred" from Romney to Obama in 2012. If true, that would mean that Obama got more than 14 million fewer votes this time (the official number is that he was elected with 10 million fewer votes than he got in 2008, and that Romney got 3 million fewer than McCain). I'm not sure how many votes were tallied each time -- and I'm too steamed to even look right now -- but I'm of the unsubstantiated opinion that up to a third of the original voters for Obama either switched candidates or stayed home in 2012.

A123
A123, a company that might have been named thusly so that it shows up first in the phone book, was propped up by tax dollars appropriated from US citizens (over $100 million) only to be sold to the Chinese for $257 million today. American taxpayers involuntarily "invested" in A123, and Chinese communists reap the harvest of our investment. Did I ever mention the distinct possibility that we've got a Manchurian candidate?

Oh yes, I did, I said China and radical Islam might be in cahoots with our guy, but for the sake of appeal more than evidence-based reasoning -- let's throw Putin into that mix. In Russia (is that what we're calling it nowadays?), in Russia right now you can be put in jail for being a Jehovah's Witness or a Mormon -- you can be jailed for your thoughts. That's not new in China, however, where Tibetan buddhists who self-immolate (light themselves on fire in protest of authoritarian rule) are now considered murderers. If they fail to kill themselves, they are "attempted murderers." How can you be a murderer if you do not harm anyone else? There is only one way to do that:

If your body is considered to be the property of the State.

Death (estate) Tax
I heard a rumor today on the radio (NPR) that if we go off of the arbitrary, man-made scheme called "the fiscal cliff" then the Estate Tax doesn't just apply to 1 in 500 people anymore, it applies to everyone with a million bucks. Also, it's not going to be 35% anymore, it's going to be 55%. For a totalitarian statist dictator, that represents a terrible incentive: If you can get into the position where a whole bunch of rich people die, then you get loads of money from that. Of course, you would have to be the kind of a despot who is willing to stand by and watch American citizens die while doing nothing to save them ...

p.s. I'm sorry I didn't fact-check all of this crazy, wacky stuff and what's more is that I even have to add one more unsubtantiated rant before finishing: It was either the CEO of GM or GE that I heard on NPR today, openly praising the Chinese communist system for its unprecedented efficiency. Ugh.

Whew, I feel better now.
