One of my credit cards was once with a business called "Providian" that was purchased by "WaMu" that was purchased buy Chase. And in that final purchase the bank payment information was lost and I had to create a new online account. I was charged $100 in fees after submitting incorrect bank information to Chase.
Below is my letter to them about my mistake. For now I decided that I will pay everything except for the $100 fees and close the account. They said they will report the remaining balance to a collection agency. Comments or suggestions anyone?
Letter to Chase:
When I entered my bank information for online payment, I mistakenly first entered my account number into the routing number field. The routing number field limited the number of characters to 9 without my realizing it. I copied and pasted the number that was in the routing number field (my account number minus the last three digits) into the account number fields, then submitted the form. Then I was charged a little under $100 in fees due to failed payment since the account number was missing three digits.
I called to see if the fees could be removed from my account. I was told they would not be removed. Ridiculously inflexible and unresponsive in my opinion, hence I chose to discontinue my business with Chase.
