My recent ranting article about education sparked memories of my days in elementary school and some of the silly activities there. I attended a small town government elementary school in the 1970s. Every day before lunch, we had to recite this prayer: God is Great. God is Good. Let us thank Him for our food. By His hand we all are fed. Give us, Lord, our daily bread. Amen. Yawn. This nonsense continued through sixth grade, the last grade at Claremont Elementary School at the time. I do not recall ever having to repeat this at middle or high school. We did, of course, have to fall in line in shifts to enter the cafeteria for our "daily bread" throughout all grades. Hail Mother Prussia! I have to wonder when the separation of church and state rulings finally put a stop to such rubbish. | ||||
