I've always believed that Republicans, Democrats, and politicians in general have been laughing behind our backs for years. Both of the major parties that dominate the political system in the U.S. have shown themselves to be full of lying hypocrites out to plunder the system for as much cash and power as they can grab. Each election cycle they stand up and proclaim what they stand for, which amounts to whatever they think will get them elected. Then they fail to follow through on even the best points of their campaign promises, most of which are no better than what we have already.
Despite this, Objectivists everywhere can be heard to voice support for both of these parties, if not outright at least on the basis of which evil is the lesser today. This is just another facet of the short-range thinking prevalent in our society today. If we keep supporting these parties and their rotten mongrel philosophies nothing significant will ever change. Just like Mr. Thompson in Atlas Shrugged, they're looking for just a few more days in power and a few more victims to victimize. When we support them, we support the continued assault on our lives. Do you want real change? Don't accept the idea that the only choices open to us are Republican or Democrat. Don't fall into the abyss of trying to rationalize support for a corrupt candidate and system in the interests of dealing with the crisis "right now." there is always a crisis "right now" and only a real long-term change will help us all to live better lives.
