I was very interested in the Iranian protest situation this morning, as another huge demonstration was planned, and the so called "Supreme Leader" has given the Iranian people an ultimatum: Shut up and sit down, or die. I found some current videos on YouTube, where many of the comments were in broken English, Farsi, and other languages. I couldn't resist adding my own comment to one: "Obama is a moral coward, but Americans are with you." I received a reply from someone with a Middle Eastern screen name: hes not a coward actually, what he is doing is smart. Listen....if he says hes in favor of the protestors and mousavi, then Ahmadinejad and the government will say to the protestors "you have the support of America, you are not loyal Iranians, and you are againstt Iran" and would use that excuse to kill innocent iranians I took a minute to cool my head before I replied back: "I can understand your point. However, these people are willing to risk their lives to stand on principle, and have asked U.S. leadership for some acknowledgement. To refuse them this heartbreakingly small thing is beyond cowardice to me. If they're willing to risk their necks, as America's founders were over 200 years ago, then the beacon of freedom and democracy in the world ought to give them a knod. Not doing so is an insult to their cause, and serves to save no one in the end." Not to mention that this Supreme Leader clown is already blaming the U.S. for the protester action, so an appropriate nod by the president wouldn't really make any difference. Iranian police already have the go ahead to stop the protests in any way possible, including murder and violence. Kow-towing to lunatics, as Obama is doing, will absolutely get people killed, because the Iranians show no sign of backing down, nor should they. A little back bone from the American president isn't just in order, it's a requirement if POTUS gives a damn at all about freedom. But, alas, he does not. Obama does not hold freedom as a first principle. For this there should be no forgiveness or pathetic apologies from his pacifist supporters. | ||||
