I went to the races today with a group of folks I've started spending some time with. I got to drive a race car on the track for an 8-lap "spectator" race. I didn't even come close to winning but I had such a blast driving the car. Here are the pics along with some comments: The pre-race instructions (and signing the release form): I'm the concerned fellow in the purple shirt. I think I was leaning forward to ask if this is dangerous: The kind of car I drove (a Monte Carlo with a 350 V-8 engine): Not much on the inside of this car: That's me in the lead car, too bad they all eventually caught me (humbling): My friend won but we all got into the winner's circle for the picture. A more-experienced driver in our race was surprised that a total rookie had beaten him: The second-funnest events of the night were the figure-8 races. First the cars: Then the schoolbuses!: ... and they're criss-crossing!: One of the buses didn't make it through the intersection in time, another bus rammed into its back-end. That bus in the middle is missing its back end (which is the yellow square in the grass on the left)!: The bus in the middle on the left is the one with new and "natural" air-conditioning: This doesn't look good for the bus approaching from the right (2-and-a-half buses headed straight at you!): This is what happens when you knock the radiator clean off of a bus (and you keep racing with the engine like that): Now, this guy has less to worry about for the next time he races through the intersection: What a fun day I had! Ed [used, and benefited from the use of, lots of fossil fuels today; not feeling guilty about that; screw the irrational eco-alarmists!] | ||||
