Classical Individualism
I first read this years ago while in graduate school. It was one of the few I carried around with me in my backpack. Today, Classical Individualism is one of only a handful that I re-read every now and then, to refresh my mind and spirit. I say refresh, because in an age where communitarianist and socialist denial of true human liberty and flourishing abound, an affirmation such as Prof Machan provides is like water to parched land. Elegantly written, powerfully argued, Machan makes the connection from human purpose, to the proper system of government and economy that fits human purpose. He also attributes to other thinkers and philosophers (like Ayn Rand) their contribution to classical individualism. I probably do the book an injustice in this inadequate review. However, I do recommend it highly. Read it, then read again.
