During the 1980s, an American was visited by a Russian friend who managed to obtain a travel visa abroad. The American decided to introduce the Russian to some of the defining features of his country.
- "You see, in the United States we have freedom of speech," he said. "Anyone can go up to the White House and say, 'Ronald Reagan is an idiot.' And nothing will happen to him."
The Russian was not impressed.
- "That is nothing new," he said. "In the Soviet Union, anyone can also go to Red Square and say, 'Ronald Reagan is an idiot.' And nothing will happen to him."
