| This film has gotten a bad rap, plain and simple. But plain and simple, it's amazing.
For years, I've heard the label "Pollyanna" used to derogatorily describe a stupid and naive person whose insipid optimism would otherwise have a weakening effect on "smarter" people. After seeing this film, however, hearing the superior logic behind optimism changed something in me forever. A true "Pollyanna" is not a weak person, but someone who is strong and valuable beyond easy reckoning.
The story revolves around a recently orphaned girl named, yes, you guessed it... Pollyanna (Hayley Mills). She is sent to live with her Aunt Polly in Harrington Town, a town all too dominated by a cancerous cynicism in its citizens... and a town in which Pollyanna will work wonders.
