44 Crimes Police Won't Respond to in Oakland Posted by William Dwyer on 7/13, 10:38am
Oakland has the highest crime rate in the State of California, and the fourth highest crime rate in the nation. The city was the site of rioting and looting last week in response to the Johannes Merserle verdict in which a police officer was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter for inadvertently shooting Oscar Grant, a black suspect. Demonstrators wanted a murder conviction, so they rioted and looted downtown businesses as a form of protest. The city is so poorly managed it doesn't have enough money pay its police officers, so it's laying off 80 officers, and as result will not respond to burglary, theft, embezzlement, grand theft, vandalism, vehicle collision, extortion, attempted extortion, identity theft, etc. And the chief of police is advertising this publicly, giving prospective criminals an open invitation to ply their craft there without fear of reprisal. Warning: People planning to travel to Oakland should revise their itinerary.
