Doctor Who censored due to "violence and cruelty" toward a Dalek!!
Posted by Matthew Humphreys on 5/16, 7:43am
The British Board of Film Classification has unexpectedly imposed a "12" certificate on DVD/video releases of episodes from the BBC's revival of the Doctor Who science fiction show, making it illegal for retailers to sell copies to children under 12.

The BBFC apparently objected to sequences in the episode "Dalek" (broadcast in the UK a few weeks ago in a 7pm timeslot) which showed the Doctor electrocuting the Dalek (one of a race of psychopathic aliens) and subsequently attempting to shoot it at close range; claiming that it portrayed "violence and cruelty as a way of dealing with problems".

It is not clear whether the BBFC were equally concerned about other scenes in the same episode showing the Dalek killing off about 200 human beings.
