The US and the UN
Posted by Max on 8/28, 3:52am
This article rightly raises the question, why the US doesn't leave the UN, but rather sends a stooge to the council in order to participate half-heartedly.

On the one side, the UN is a US product of the Wilsonian era and later the Roosevelt ideals and so a paper-child of the Democratic Party, but this can't be the only issue. For the New Republicans, the UN is essential, because it is the only tool to give them a so-called collective support by legitimating wars on an international level. This has almost always worked in the past, despite the counter-votes of all the small dictator-states. And the US shouldn't fear the UN, because it can veto anything that poses a true threat to its sovereignity. But this early ideas are beginning to fade, so why can't the US exit the UN, now?

I think it is a mix of cause and effect and now the USA must bear the consequences of getting itself entangled into the socialist UN-projects like Agenda21, the UNESCO and so forth. The US can't bring about an secession from the UN, because many of the senate and House representatives are already dependent on parts of the UN that have linked themselves to the US legislation process. Also, the UN has been integrated into almost half of the US population as a necessary institutions to democracy and freedom, despite the counter evidence.
It was a US-crafted Big Government evil that won't be combatted with the current Republican and Democrats mindset of Big Government.
