Last weekend my step-daughter Emily Merrill, daughter of the late Ron Merrill and of Yoon Merrill, graduated Magna Cum Laude from Smith College. Originally, the Lower Manhattan Development Corporation had planned to replace the towers of the World Trade Center with a horrible design by pomo architect Daniel Libeskind. It was an asymmetrical, empty-looking shard of glass with an unsatisfying spire at its peak. The new design looks much better.(Read more...)
