| | My introduction to Objectivism came when a friend in algebra handed me Anthem. The "Teach Yourself" books cited reflect the demands of academic philosophy classes, rather than outlays by people seeking to improve their lives. I believe that this is largely true even of those who post here regularly. With the notable exception of Ed Thompson who dislikes fiction, we came to Objectivism via the novels.
Also, I deny that the problem is that Objectivism is too hard to understand. It is not. However, anyone who does not want to make some intellectual effort is not going to be deeply changed by a gloss. In fact, it would seem that the harder something is to understand, the more consequentially it is accepted by those who invest the mental labor.
