Rice-eaters on SOLOHQ? I am appalled. Rice-eating has no place in a rational person's dietary lexicon. Rice-eating has been shown to cause Hinduism, Buddhism, Sciabarrism & other forms of mysticism. Rice-eating is invariably a precursor to full-blown vegetarianism - & the vegetarian epidemic is the single biggest crisis facing the globe today. Rice-eating is anti-reason, anti-man, & anti-life. I hereby denounce Mr. Landauer & his infernal rice-cooker, & sentence him to a lifetime of beef stew, cooked in the Perigo hot-pot.

I'll have you know that last night, the founder of Sciabarrism ate... ~rice~ of all things!

But it was ROAST PORK FRIED RICE!!!

So there!

Cheers,
Chris

Spot on, Jeff. Rice cookers are great. My girlfriend also uses hers for making soup. Fantastic.

Linz will be happy to know that I've survived 28 months of Korean life so far, and despite daily interaction with my rice-cooker I've yet to develop full-blown Sciabarrism! (Mind you, I have found myself in a Buddhist temple & I can confirm Lindsay's suspicion that such places abound in Sciabbarrists.)

If that isn't enough, I've also discovered the delights of rice *wine*, something that will surely have Jeff & Chris salivating. The only drawback (or advantage, some might say) of this potent little brew is its tendency to render the drinker incapable of fathoming how he woke up naked in a strange bed the next morning.

I can only take this rice cooker nonsense seriously as a Sense-of-Life issue if you are talking about the ZOJIRUSHI Rice Cooker with Neuro Fuzzy logic technology which will figure out for you how long your white, brown, wild or mixed rice, porridge, or kashi should cook. It will keep it warm and perfect for up to 24 hours. Making rice is not just cooking, nor eating, it has its own subbacultcha, darling.

Like Derek, rice is something I interact with daily here in Korea. However, I think I developed Sciabarrism a long time ago, and for that I blame Brooklyn pizza and cheesecake.

Other Korean foods I eat regularly: seaweed in various manifestations, the infamous Korean kim chi, tiny dead fish looking at you with longing eyes, and of course tofu. And soju, a toxic Korean chemical which Koreans practically force down your throat! And I love it all! I think I really must check my premises one of these days.

I just want to say while I'm here that it's great to see SOLOHQ continuing to do so well. Congratulations on the first anniversary of the site, and onwards and upwards!

Oh boy! Have we really come to this end? I thought I had better say something quickly or Lindsay might think I had taken up chanting nam myoho renge kyo, or otherwise had gotten a splinter in my mouth from eating jasmin rice with those damned coarse wooden chopsticks you get at specialty stores a dime the dozen.

I have nothing against rice cookers, really. Who could possibly find anything to say about them except...Mr Landauer:)BTW, can you make couscous in a rice cooker Jeff?

Actually I have a funny story to tell. My dear Filipino friend, who is doing his residency at a Long Island hospital, enjoys eating heaping bowls of clumpy rice with his Adobo every day after work. He recently went on vacation for two weeks and before he left he made sure that he turned out all the lights, his computer, etc. Well my dear rice-cooker lover forgot to unplug the little aluminum nightmare from hell. Jeff is not kidding at all when he says that these sweet little rice cookers heat up quickly. In fact, my friend's whole apartment warmed up very quickly. Nice and toasty.

Of course it's not the rice cooker's fault...it is rather the rice-consuming creature who has too much faith in the supposed virtues of rice. I say that nothing improves the memory like a big fat juicy red piece of fresh broiled steak. Try it! After eating that you'll never forget to turn off the broiler.:)

Rice is OK when money's tight, but the same can be said about ramen noodles. I'd rather buy a pound of hamburger, fire up my George Foreman grill, and mage burgers. Have one for dinner, wrap the other seven in foil and put 'em in the fridge. Once you've grilled them, you can just nuke a burger if you get hungry.

"Hinduism, Buddhism, Sciabarrism & other forms of mysticism"?!!

I'm sure the Atkins diet is great and all, but athletics require a good amount of carbs for fuel. Notice that I said that the rice cooker is great for combining rice and other foods, namely MEAT!

Ha! Mr Landauer seeks to fool us again. This is an appropriate time to post here what I posted on the SOLO Forum:

SOLOists

For over a year now, since its inception, SOLOHQ has run a fresh article every week day. This is one of the features that has been most successful in drawing new visitors to the site. The articles, for the most part, have been written by folk *right here on this forum.* Every so often, the reserve runs low, & Joe, Jeff or myself will come on here & solicit more. That's what I'm doing now. The supply has run dry folks ... so put thinking caps on, activate your passions, & get writing!

You'll appreciate the urgency of the crisis if you visit SOLOHQ right now & observe that the dark forces of rice-eating have taken over. I have
endeavoured to fend them off, pointing out the link between rice-eating & Buddhism, Hinduism, Sciabarrism & other irrationalities. But they are
relentless, & cunning, the rice-eaters. The founder of Sciabarrism claims to eat pork with his rice, & Mr Landauer claims to add bacon to his. This is typical of rice-eaters - they will claim that the turpitude of their eating rice is offset by the fact that they eat food as well. Do not be deceived. Write an article for SOLOHQ *today* & help me stave off the rice-eaters.

Unconvinced? Bear the following tragedies in mind. Our esteemed Sales & Marketing Director Barry Kayton ate rice, & promptly became pregnant. He
hasn't been sighted since.

The irrepressible Anthony Teets ate rice, & became mute, an occurrence previously deemed impossible. He too hasn't been sighted in a long time.

Are these the sorts of disasters you want to court by *not* writing for SOLOHQ & staving off the rice-eaters?

Hit those keyboards!!!!!

I don’t think white rice can harm us, but what of brown rice? I may be way off base here…but it’s my observation that the consumption of brown rice goes hand in hand with crystal fondling, chakra reading, and purple wearing….all flagrant indicators of mysticism. There is an epidemic of this in my former home of far northern California. I can’t be sure if brown rice is the cause or merely just what mystics get hungry for, but it’s enough to make me stay away from it.

Ok, I'm almost sold. But I have a question about sauces. What sauces have people added to the rice (besides soy sauce) that make it good to eat....all by itself?
