Excellent, excellent point, Joe! There is one reality. Rational individualists tend to identify and integrate that reality similarly, so OF COURSE we have commonality. To paraphrase you (in print and at SOLOCNY) 'there is no conflict between rational men.'

There is nothing 'collectivist' about rational individuals joining together for a common cause. To FAIL to do so would be anti-reality.

Great article! What is real and right is good, not what is simply different. That's the kind of thinking that doesn't allow 'different' art to pass for good art; bad writing to pass as a great novel; and allows people to achieve goals instead of wasting time.

If 20 individualists say yes, then we are 20 individuals in cooperation, we aren�t a pool of collectivists. I don�t recall Roark or any of Rand�s heroes having qualms about their individuality in any way at all. I am �I� no matter what, whether I agree or disagree, whether I�m alone on an island, or in a crowded city, or a room full of Objectivists, or in a society wearing a number like in Anthem.

And if I agree with 20 individuals, then we can cooperate like traders do.

A nice succinct and focused article on a point worth restating.

Existance, Identity, Reason are more fundamental than Individualism, which depends on these concepts if it is to be properly grounded.

By the way, it's an enjoyable read!
