I'm starting to despair for the West. I don't know which is the bigger threat anymore, mystical idiots and terrorism, or the ever increasing tax and regulatory burden(mainly through indirect taxes) that Western govt.'s are putting onto their citizens. (Although I realise the integral linkages between the two).

NZ has a Labour govt. stamping the economy and with it freedom into the ground. I thought Bush in the US with his tax cuts offered some hope, but again, its all the indirect taxation, including at the State level, and in NZ, the local council level, that the blatant money gouge has moved to. (Actually, in NZ its on every level as central govt. is proving to be a forcible taker of other peoples' money to what must surely be an unprecedented extent.)

I agree with Mark, NZ is getting out of hand with the taxation thing.

What bothers me is in a few months when this property boom becomes a property crash, and the resulting fallout and reduced tax take, which will lead to even further taxes in order to make up the shortfall!

Having vexatious females in charge has ruined a once great nation.

but no one mentioned Bastiat or the Boston Tea Party.
