| | Rat: "I have neither the time nor the desire to introduce you to Catholic teaching on human sexuality. Suffice it to say, you are wallowing in the ignorance typical of a bigot. And please do not protest the label of bigot."
I will not protest the label of bigot. I will, however, protest the label of ignorant. christianity has a clear and evident disdain for sexuality and lust, and I have plenty of bible quotes here to back this up. notice, for example, the consistent use of sexuality as an insult/ condemnation metaphor, even when it is not the direct condemnation being made:
"I will pull up your skirts over your face that your shame may be seen- your adulteries and lustful neighings, your shameless prostitution! I have seen your detestable acts on the hills and in the fields. Woe to you, O Jerusalem! How long will you be unclean?" jeremiah 13:26-27
"At the head of every street you built your lofty shrines and degraded your beauty, offering your body with increasing promiscuity to anyone who passed by. You engaged in prostitution with the Egyptians, your lustful neighbors, and provoked me to anger with your increasing promiscuity. So I stretched out my hand against you and reduced your territory; I gave you over to the greed of your enemies, the daughters of the Philistines, who were shocked by your lewd conduct. " ezekiel 16:25-27
(noticing a pattern here of the use of the word "lustful" as a marker of whoever is meant to be seen as "the bad guys"?) "Charging cavalry, flashing swords and glittering spears! Many casualties, piles of dead, bodies without number, people stumbling over the corpses- all because of the wanton lust of a harlot, alluring, the mistress of sorceries, who enslaved nations by her prostitution and peoples by her witchcraft. "I am against you," declares the LORD Almighty. "I will lift your skirts over your face. I will show the nations your nakedness and the kingdoms your shame. " Nahum 3:3-5
(and here we see the implication that "harlots" can bring down entire cultures. i'm skeptical)
"They are darkened in their understanding and separated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them due to the hardening of their hearts. Having lost all sensitivity, they have given themselves over to sensuality so as to indulge in every kind of impurity, with a continual lust for more. You, however, did not come to know Christ that way. " Ephesians 4:18-20
(here we see it again: sensuality is seen as impure, ungodly, and for the insensitive)
"When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory. Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry. Because of these, the wrath of God is coming." Collossians 3:4-6
(here, lust is listed as a sin in and of itself along with sexual immorality, lest you wish to contend that the bible merely preaches against excessive or destructive lust. the fact that greed is listed as a mortal sin is also interesting: do you agree with this listing, and if so, how do you at all get along with randians?)
"that each of you should learn to control his own body in a way that is holy and honorable, not in passionate lust like the heathen, who do not know God" 1 thessalonians 4:4-5
(here we see it again-- lust and passion are the domain of the enemy, of the non religious, opposed to what is "holy and honorable")
if I set my mind to it I could probably find much more along these lines also, but even if this is it, this seems to be pretty damning evidence of the bible's utter disdain and disgust for sexuality and sensuality. and besides, your use of terms like "base" and "vulgar" for pornographic sexuality would have been largely unintelligible without the information you were catholic, and made no sense if I assumed you to be something other than christian-- objectivists don't talk this way about sex, or at least not if they are being accurate to rand 's ideas-- while she attacks pornography, one can hardly imagine her using--or condoing the use of-- terms such as these. if you had never mentioned your christianity, this style of talking would have still made your faith visible.
