Thanks for this beautiful tribute, Linz. Chris is certainly one of the great New Zealand heroes, and I can't think of a more appropriate person to be farewelling him than his philosophical soulmate and fellow Tall Poppy.

Thank you Linz!

As I said on another thread, Chris Lewis is an inspiration and hero to me too. If you read this, Chris, thank you for being so great, for rising above, for achieving. You showed us it was possible. You fought and you won. I hope the next battle brings you and your family happiness and even more success.

I saw this article after posting this about Chris on the crab mentality thread... "I see him as a fine inspiration to aspiring athletes and thinkers alike. A true champion."

Chris sounds like a wonderful guy and I suggest that he and his family move to beautiful Merritt Island, Florida on the space coast located east of Orlando.  There are some really cool Objectivists living down there and I am moving down there soon myself.  Can't wait.

Linz,

I don't follow tennis and before Solo, New Zealand was somewhere on a map for me. I know you meant your article as a tribute to a close friend, but to me it was a small window into your past, New Zealand culture and a tennis player I definitely want to know more about and more of.

I really like this article.

Michael

No way Kat! I want Chris to teach at the World of Tennis here in Austin, TX. I could use an Objectivist buddy and this town is the best. Lots of wine here Chris. And music. Nice skools. You get all that Chris and I'll teach your kids to play the guitar (for an exorbitant fee, of course. Something on the order of what you charge for tennis lessons!). :-)

Nice article, Linz.

Linz, thanks for such a glowing tribute. The times we've spent together
will forever remain in the most special of the most special category .

Nobody in this country better understands the mentality that gives rise
to the drooling beast. I've watched you fight it with a relentlessness and
a fury that have been magnificent, and will continue to be so. If it weren't
for the family, I can honestly say, I'd stay here and devote more of my
time to helping you decapitate the beast -- and then repeat the exercise
as soon as its grotesque head reappeared.

To Derek, David, Marcus and Michael, thank you sincerely for your posts.
Your kind words are much appreciated.

To Katdaddy, thanks for the suggestion to move to Florida. I lived in St
Petersburg for a number of years, and loved it. But this time around, I'm
going to settle in Southern Cal, with Orange County and San Diego
being my top choices. I love it there.

To Lance, thank you for the suggestion to move to Austin...and for the
offer to teach the kids guitar. All three of them are heavily involved in music,
with Nathan (11) and Geneva (7) playing the violin, and Rochelle (9)
playing the cello. All three also play piano as their secondary instrument.
But I'll tell you what, if I make it to Austin in my travels, I'll be sure to look
you up. The kids'd love to get together for a session with you.

To PC, if you read this, just wanted to thank you for your fantastic support
over the years. Like Linz, you've been unwavering in your superhuman
efforts to beat the bastards back. I wish you many continued victories.

- Chris

Great article Linz - another one of your best! ;-)

Chris, though you'll be living in that shining city on the hill you'll still exist here in the minds of those who have met you, who fight for tomorrow today and think of you as a paragon of Objectivism, of men (NEM!) as we could and should be.

I'm glad you like San Diego - it really is the most beautiful of the West Coast cities and only has Chicago in its category of America's most beautiful cities.

Good luck with your move, Chris. I imagine that moving the whole family to another continent is more than a notion. Your kids sound fantastic. If you're in Austin do stop by. Happy travels.
