I have often thought that the various and multiple licences, permits and other restrictions placed upon us by government is nothing more than a kind of "protection racket" that has more in common with the mob than a government tasked with making sure our liberty is held in their trust.  See how long your business is left to its own divices if you allow your licence to expire!   If you do not have a mortgage and own your home outright see how long before government thugs show up to seize it if you do not pay your property taxes(or other taxes!).

You are correct we are far from free!
