I met Armin Shimerman at a Star Trek convention.
(For those who do not know, Shimerman played a barkeeper named Quark in the series "Deep Space 9." Quark and his kin are from a race called "Ferengi." They are traders. His unremitting greed, occasionally moderated by mere self-interest, provides interesting contrasts to the altruism of all the other good guys -- and Quark is a good guy. In one story modeled on "Casablanca" we find that he had smuggled weapons to the underground -- at a generous profit, of course, that compensated for the horrible risk. So, that's Quark.)
I asked Shimerman if he ever read any Ayn Rand. He said that he had not read "Ann" Rand since he was in college and acting on stage, but that he knew the ideas, and the books were often recommended to him by other trekkers, and he said that The Fountainhead was on his list of things to read next. I guess he got around to doing that.
(The picture comes from this fan site. Shimerman said: "I have no interest whatsoever for writing or directing for TV or for movies, I leave that to my friends who are very good at it. I’m only interested in writing novels and I’m only interested in directing the stage. The reason I’m not interested in TV and film is it takes a lot of work to learn how to do that correctly and well and I think I’m a little too old to learn that and also it takes the ability to see things visually and that’s not what I do best. What I do best is aurally, I hear things better than most, of the how it should sound, the way its put it together and that’s not a film director’s responsibility but on stage it is, so I prefer directing for the stage than I do for film or TV."
That would explain why he took the job of being a voice for this game.
