Ah, yes, Luke, I remember hearing about this when I was eleven and twelve. It got lots of discussion at the dinnertable because momndad know members of the Duke fac. The '88' actually signed a petition which had nothing to do with guilt or innocence, so please don't confuse professors with white trash such as Nancy Grace or dumb jocko sportz casters! Rather, they were fed up with the atmosphere created by the lacrosse team's rowdy, drunken behavior. So the ones that didn't sign (the humanities were divided half/half) refused because signing would infer that they were taking sides in the legal/rape issue. In other words, while no one approved of the lacrosse team's behavior, only about half wanted to terminate the squad on campus badly enough to use the event as a viable pretext. They were there, they were drunk, they were playing touchy-feely and using epithets. Their coach approved. Well, bye. Even then, predictably, the two departments with by far the highest % of signers were Bongo bongo and Vaginal studies--bottom-feeding academia, at best. Eva
