Luke,

So, I suppose this is a bad time to tell you about something I discovered in my new book: Foundations of Human Sociality (Thank you, Mike Marotta, for suggesting this book!). Of course, I wouldn't want to feed into any pre-misogynist impulses or sexist dispositions, so I'll just stay quiet about the matter ...

Just kidding!

The book is a compendium of Game Theory research on small, primitive, semi-civilized societies. They studied folks from 15-17 small-scale societies situated all around the world. One game studied was Ultimatum, which is similar to the childhood heuristic "I cut, you pick" for cutting up and dividing a pie in a fair manner (of which reasonable people would agree is an appropriate method to divide goods equitably, without any resentment whatsoever). Another game is Dictator, which is similar to that childhood experience where a bully decides unilaterally whether he is going to share any of the pie with you. Tribe chicks -- I know, I know, that sounds "sexist" (but it also sounds kind of cool, don't you agree?!) -- tribe chicks sometimes acted like callous bullies.

Note to self: Do not get involved with a woman from the Hadza band (900 people total) of Tanzania. Game performance data (1) indicate that, if you were married to her and she won the lottery (or any situation with similar dynamics), she would give you less than 20% of the windfall endowment! That sucks. What kind of a woman would do that to a man?

Note to self (continued): Also, keep in mind that, if you are going to get romantically involved with a woman from the Tsimane family of the Amazon who happens to be over the age of 55, then keep in mind that data (2) indicate that she will attempt to divide goods 80:20 in her favor (even when she knows that you can call off the entire arrangement). These elderly Amazon women must develop a fierce sense of entitlement or something, or perhaps a lifetime of mistreatment, leading to resentful blow-back behavior and vengeful spite (who can know for sure?). At any rate, because women can lie about their age, be cautious on all dates that you schedule with women from the Amazon!

Ed

I noted in the aforementioned forum that the host university for the event per Choosing the Right College was labeled a "train wreck" by a major college guide publisher:
Duke is still picking up the pieces from the infamous lacrosse case of 2006, when an African American stripper falsely accused three Duke lacrosse players of rape—and eighty-eight Duke professors rushed to condemn the innocent students in the Chronicle of Higher Education. As one student tells us, faculty and administrators are still fixated on "race, gender, and class." In the wake of the "rape" charade, Duke adopted a new, draconian sexual misconduct policy that "can render a student guilty of nonconsensual sex simply because he or she is considered 'powerful' on campus," warned the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education.

I subsequently learned that the event organizer also serves as a campus ambassador so naturally he protested against this assessment.

In any case, this recent discussion along with prior ones related to Duke have only further lowered my opinion of that university.

Duke Accuser Convicted of Murder

See this link demonstrating hardly any coverage of her as perpetrator as compared to her as victim.

Per this link her defense attorney was busted for prostitution.

The first story is interesting. Here's an innovative conjecture on what happened (not that I know anything about the real case other than the headlines): Maybe she really was raped by the lacrosse players, but in that case she learned that the law is incapable or unwilling to help her, and then in for some reason her boyfriend was threatening to her, and she didn't think government would help her, so she defended herself with deadly force in order to ensure her safety from a potential escalation of violence with a dangerous man.

The second story... prostitution is a voluntary interaction and hence in itself should not be a crime and I view the man as the victim to mob oppression.

The first story was funny in that in the end it requested donations after pointing out PBS is gov funded. At first I was thinking the website was a Main Stream Media website and I was like haha your advertising etc is paid for by the Feds & special interest groups... but cool its an independent news source. On this subject, how about we share our favorite non-MSM news sources? News.google.com doesn't count (google is now imo evil/corrupted)

What I found noteworthy in my prior post was how the person who sought to abuse the law in 2006 found herself and her lawyer brought to justice in 2013.

As for news services, I try to get a mix of mainstream to fringe sources to examine stories from all angles.

Ah, yes, Luke, I remember hearing about this when I was eleven and twelve. It got lots of discussion at the dinnertable because momndad know members of the Duke fac.

The '88' actually signed a petition which had nothing to do with guilt or innocence, so please don't confuse professors with white trash such as Nancy Grace or dumb jocko sportz casters!

Rather, they were fed up with the atmosphere created by the lacrosse team's rowdy, drunken behavior. So the ones that didn't sign (the humanities were divided half/half) refused because signing would infer that they were taking sides in the legal/rape issue.

In other words, while no one approved of the lacrosse team's behavior, only about half wanted to terminate the squad on campus badly enough to  use the event as a viable pretext. They were there, they were drunk, they were playing touchy-feely and using epithets. Their coach approved. Well, bye.

Even then, predictably, the two departments with by far the highest % of signers were Bongo bongo and Vaginal studies--bottom-feeding academia, at best.
