| | About a year ago, when the Great Communicator passed away, Dr. Hurd posted on his site that he believes we need a new Reagan right now, due to the problems we're facing with teh world, and whathaveyou.
I've gotta say it- first off, I'd LOVE that. I'm a die-hard Reaganite, and hell, I was BORN under his administration. But that, in fact, ISN'T the question being asked- the question is do we NEED another Reagan right now. To that, I have to say- no.
See, I visualize Reagan as a true hero of mine- and he's just that, a hero. One thing worth noting about heroes- they come when they are needed- and ONLY in times of being needed. That is, times of absolute DESPERATION.
America was certainly like that in the late '70s and early '80s- we were a mere stone throw away from losing the Cold War, due to decades of appeasement on our part, we were stuck in teh middle of the Iranian Hostage Crisis, the economy was in the shitter, gas prices were even HIGHER than they are now, and to top it off, we'd forgotten what it meant to be patriotic. Basically, we were in a situation where it seemed that all hope had basically been lost.
I gotta tell you guys- while we may indeed be having problems here and there like that, today, the situation is NOWHERE NEAR as dire as it was then. It was like TEN TIMES WORSE then, if not MORESO, than what the world is dealing with now.
Bush may not be a GREAT president, but trust me- he COULD be doing a HELL of a lot worse( i.e. Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton, Lyndon Johnson, Gerald Ford, Richard Nixon, George H W Bush).
Will another Reagan come, even with possibly another last name? I'll be honest- I hope one doesn't. That is- I hope one never has to. Whilst I'd LOVE another Reagan in the White House, I hope things never AGAIN get as bad as they were then, that we DO need another one.
